Your daughterÂ’s next birthday party can be a great opportunity to throw a Hippy Theme Party. A hippie theme party offers a good mix of good music, good crafts, good food and good fun that all the party guests are sure to enjoy.
Decorating for the party will allow you to use your imagination. Consider hanging bead curtains over the doorways and be sure to create some big posters that promote the concerns of the hippie subculture. Things like Peace, Be Happy, Smile, DonÂ’t Tread On Me, Love not War, are all themes that meant a lot to the hippie movement. Invite the guests to come dressed in vintage 60s, or go to the local Goodwill and find some clothes that will allow the guests to create their own costumes upon arriving. Some particular thing to look for would be turtleneck sweaters, long pants with flared bell bottoms, wide belts, hair/head bands, beads–lots of beads, furry or crocheted vests, and mini skirts. These are all fashions you may have seen on the Sonny and Cher show or even groups like the Beatles wearing. Buttons with political or catchy phrases marking the reason for the hippie theme party can be made up to be part of the decor, costuming, and also part of the favors.
The activities of the day should include one or more of the crafts that came out of the hippie movement. You can teach guests to macrame friendship bracelets out of hemp or jute. Or, you may want to have an activity tie-dying white t-shirts that can not only take time as an activity during the party, but act as a terrific party favor and souvenir for months (years) to come. Then, there can be the personal pet rock decoration and adoption party. Then, there can be some dance lessons of the hippy generation – as you play some of the old greats – Jimmi Hendrix, Led Zepplin, Ziggy Stardust, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, just to mention a few. Stick to healthier food choices, after all, the hippie movement could possibly be considered to be the grandfather of the health food movement we are undergoing today. Some yogurt parfaits with homemade granola, or some homemade ice cream with granola and berries on top should make a sweet, yet authentic treat to end a fun filled hippie theme party one.
