NHS Burka – your views on religious medical clothing in the UK?
The NHS is offering an ‘inter-faith’ gown for hospital patients who do not want to show their identity in wards/operating theaters in Britain.
Hopefully it will be allowed in the NHS for a non-Muslim to wear this dress in bed on a Hospital ward when consulting a doctor/nurse?
Are Christians/Jews/Hindus allowed to get special clothing also in the NHS, due to relgious beliefs? Maybe they do, but I have yet to hear of an NHS Turban.
I’ll have to ask NICE what they think, we could have a new range of fashion in Hospitals, certainly better than the usual patterned pyjamas!

Some years ago I would certainly have had empathy and respect that Muslim people had vaild reasons and often due to extreme modesty and an inter-faith gown would be understandable. However, in the words of the very first answer to your posting “When in Rome”. I am not a racist and will always respect the religion and culture of others but owing to the extreme terrorist violence throughout the world, including our own country we can no longer have people in our hospitals, transport system or whatever that are not willing to show their identity. It is disturbing and stressful for the majority of these good people but despite everything Britain is a Christian country, now living in fear and we just cannot allow identiites to be concealed.
