One of the great things about having a theme for the party is that it can be incorporated into nearly all aspects of the party – starting with the Bar Mitzvah party invitations all the way through the party favors. This article will focus on a ‘Rock Star’ theme. And let me tell you- it can be tons of fun!
Rock Star Theme
Start with the invitations. One way to incorporate this theme into your invitations is to design your own ‘rock star poster’ invitation. Turn to the internet for inspiration (in a search bar type in the name of an artist or group and put the word “poster” behind it. For example, “Nickelback Poster”). And if you are really creative – dress the family in t-shirts that say something like “The David Stern Band” and strike a pose like you see famous musicians do in their posters (arms crossed, looking tough). Then design the invitation around it. You can even ‘autograph’ the poster (”See you at my party, David”). Or send out ‘Concert Ticket’ invitations. These invitations are made of actual ticket stock and look and feel like the real thing. And they provide you with lots of ways to personalize the ticket.
Make your guests feel like rock stars. You can also hire a photographer to take Polaroid pictures as your guests enter the party so that they experience the thrill of the paparazzi. The photographer will then give the picture right away to the guests. Who doesn’t like to have their picture taken when they are dressed in their best? Kick it up a notch and have an audio of screaming fans in the back ground (type in “Rock Concert Sound Effects” in your search bar for audio files to download).
Serve the Meal in Style. Your servers can get in on the fun too. Have them wear “Dave Stern Groupie” t-shirts . You can also give the same t-shirts as favors to the guests. Want to go all out? See if they’ll wear inexpensive long haired wigs or ponytails to really set the stage. Black nail polish? Fake gold chains, rings and earrings?
Decorations & Music. Have your guests enter the party on a red carpet. To obtain one, go to a carpet store and let them know you are looking for a ‘red carpet runner’ for your event.
Purchase some rock posters from your different bands (see first search tip) and autograph them with funny things like “To David, You’re my inspiration, Mick”. Of course inflatable electric guitars are perfect for this party. And some stores sell mylar guitar-shaped balloons.
If you are having a band or DJ, work it out ahead of time with them to solicit ‘rock stars’ from the audience to sing along with certain songs while doing their best rock star impersonation.
Send your guest home with a Rock Star party favor. There are lots of Rock Star themed favors such as mint tins, personalized guitar USB Flash Drives, electric guitar cookies and guitar shaped chocolates. You can also make your own ‘Rock Star’ favor bags by designing your own personalized label (a label designed to resemble a CD label would be fun!) and adhering it to a plain favor bag (craft stores will have these). Then fill them with candy or jumbo size cookies!
