Who else out here thinks that these new jerseys suck?
The lack of horizontal lines along the bottom are making these jerseys look like something my friends and I can wear out to the club downtown. Skin-tight, metrosexual, vertical line long sleeve under armor shirts is what they are! What happened to the “hockey jersey?” Hell, they shouldn’t even be called “jerseys” by defintion. Ottawa (failed), Florida and Nashville (hideous), Isles (get rid of the #’s on the front and they wouldn’t look so bad)….. Boston, Rangers, and Detroit (as much as I hate you) NICE JOB! I’m now worried what the Blackhawks jersey will look like because they’re releasing it two days before pre-season starts, after everyone already bought their season tickets……….. because if the best jersey is changed, they WILL lose the remainder of Hawks fans left, by that I mean no horizontal lines along the bottom. The capitals also looks good but like the rest, as you scan down expecting more, it just runs into the pants……. like a t-shirt for christ sake
I’m been pretty consistently disappointed with the new Edge look from the start.
Boston, IMO, is the only one that made a change that did anything to *improve*. Detroit and NYR didn’t really change, they’re basically the exact same jersey (Squishing “Rangers” and moving the captaincy letters to another shoulder don’t really count).
To a team, the rest of the jerseys have all been pretty down-hill.
Florida – The horizontal half-stripe into the vertical arm-stripe is a design *nightmare*, and that piping? *shudder*
Tampa Bay – It has no real personality anymore, and the blue runs into the black too much on the home jersey. The lack of striping for the bottom of the torso is going to make the players look like they’re in overalls.
Washington – Looks like someone sloshed a couple buckets of paint on the player and let it run.
Nashville – The dark jersey is OK. Don’t like the piping. The White one, however, just has no color and is atrociously boring.
Los Angeles – One of the better ones, but they ruined it by choosing “Los Angeles” along the bottom instead of a plain stripe.
Ottawa – Looks like a jersey made out of Lego. Don’t like the 3/4 profile logo, and again, another jersey that lacks personality and looks like it was thrown together in seconds. Sad part is, Pittsburgh is using the exact same template, with minor tweaks.
Islanders – Busy, busy, busy.. They went back to their traditional design for a reason, but someone in that organization just loves to screw with the fans by allowing new crazy all-over-the-place designs to take over now and then.
Columbus – Ok.. I admit, this jersey is actually pretty solid. Good work.
I only covered the teams that have officially announced so far.
Just seems to be a trend towards mediocrity and tradition destruction that really makes no sense. I watch a lot of hockey boards, and I can tell you, the people not liking this new trend outnumber those that do by almost 3 – 1.
