So, everyone is human, I understand that trends will be trends and bleeding into fashion and all that. At the bus stop, downtown, 7 A.M. in the morning, and there are a lot of kids waiting for school. I look over at one small group, (Girls & Boys) the boys, all of them had on belts with their pants down below their bums & fronts. I look over the other way and see other guys, full grown men, wearing their pant like that. It looks uncomfortable.
For the life of me, I just cannot imagine what could have started such inane behavior. Let me just say, that I am in no way against it and am not lashing out at current fashion trends in any way, shape, or form. Well maybe I am, but I could care less how anyone wants to dress, sincerely. It doesn’t bother me in the least. I am seriously curious, wondering about it and how it all began. It looks very uncomfortable and inconvenient; when I notice them, digging into pockets down by the knees.
I have one theory I call ‘Reverse Encouragement’ centering around the rebellious nature of man. Someone, somewhere, was walking around with his pants falling down past his ass, in that particular style playing all goofy teenager like they do. Then, an authority figure like his mother or father saw him and told him to quit acting like a damn fool.
Well, you know teenagers. This only encouraged the behavior and then he continued on his day. At some point, his friends took witness and thinking the whole thing hilarious,(& too silly to resist) they too joined in the fun aggravating the situation even more by irritating the persons regarding them foolish. Eventually, you know how great minds think alike, the rest of the world began to follow. The trend caught on.
It’s kind of gradual like when water drips to form an icicle. Now it is in style, an actual fashion, across the nation. Now, everyone all around will be wearing their pants down low with our boxers showing clear as day. Hey, I paid good money for my designer boxer shorts and undergarments, it would be a crying shame if no one gets to see them. It’s amazing how fashion can creep out and up on you. This one is just a little too silly for me though. It looks too uncomfortable. I was/am a veteran skateboarder very laid back, liberal kind of guy here, & I am fairly quixotic myself, but it still too much for me. It’s huge as far as younger inner City kids, in Cincinnati, but I’ve seen it in the suburbs too. Almost everyone I see, under 29 are all wearing their pants hanging lower to their thighs.
A case of reversed encouragement, gone way too far if you ask me. Hey, like I said it doesn’t bother me, as long as I’m not in a relay race with any of them. Where would someone go to find the answer to my question though? I am sure there are way better theories and the truth may be interesting as well. As long as no one fight over the credit LoL.
