What are you bringing to the hospital with you when you have your baby?
Are you going to bring your own gowns or pajamas, what all do I need? and what will you wear when you leave the hospital?
Well, I had a c-section and I was totally un prepared for it when they told me they had to admit me into the hospital and they wouldn’t even let me go home to get my stuff. So i had to go by memory of what i had and tell my husband what to bring.
1- I had a Haynes all cotton night gown. it looks ridiculous, but my got is it comfortable. and it doesn’t show your but should you decide to walk down the hall and grab a snack like the hospital ones do. You could have some comfy pajama pants maybe, but chances are, you won’t want anything elastic around your waist afterwords, and certainly nothing in between them.
2- Big giant comfy granny panties. The most comfortable ones you can find, and again it should probably be all cotton. make sure the waist band isn’t too tight. Try to also get some that are really high and go up over your belly button.
3- I brought my own pillow because it was down and really really comfy. in case you can’t tell, I’m all about comfort.
4- easy to put on slippers.
5- Several baby outfits. I had like 5 and still ran out. and have different sizes. All the outfits I had were newborn size, but my daughter actually fit into preemie sizes. she was not premature. but she was small. she was 5 lbs 1 oz and was 18 inches long. so, a little on the small side, but the newborn size was HUGE on her. But I would have like some onezies and some pajamas and some comfy pants. Also don’t forget hats and socks for the baby. And baby blankets.
6- also, I was afraid to do this, but once I had her and saw everything that came out of me afterwords, i wish I had them. Adult diapers. It is so much easier than trying to position the pads just right. because no matter what, your gonna get blood on your underwear. I had like giant size pads that i got from the hospital, and I had never seen a pad that big before, but it still wasn’t enough. Then again I heard you do bleed more with a c-section, so maybe that’s just me.
The biggest piece of advice i can give is forget about what looks good, because no matter how cute you are, you won’t be right after having a baby. so get what is comfortable because comfortable will be your best friend. And no body is going to judge how you look when you just had a baby. people understand.
Congrats on you new little baby!
Oh yeah, and like the first one said, a car seat. hospitals will not let you leave without it, and they want to see that the baby fits in it properly.
